11/27/2013 6:03:00 PM University Link light rail station to open six monthly early
Sound Transit plans to open the University Link light rail station about six monthly early. The station is expected to open between January and March of 2016.
“The University Link project will carry the highest passenger volumes of the 50-mile regional system that Sound Transit is building,” said Sound Transit Board Chair and Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy. “We are pleased that we will open the project sooner than we had planned, and at considerably lower cost to the region’s taxpayers.”
$830 miillion of the $1.95 billion project was federally funded. The link is nearly 80 percent complete right now. People using the Unviersity Link will be able to get from the U-District to downtown in about six minutes. The train will not be affected by I-5 traffic.
